A SCIAC Opening Win for Men’s Tennis

PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2009) – After a couple of tough non-conference matches to open up the 2009 season, Occidental College travelled to Caltech to open play in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers were victorious 7-2 over the Beavers to notch their first win of the spring.

Chris Wan who won his singles match 6-0, 6-0 joined forces with Reid Fenning in the #2 doubles spot, defeating Caltech 8-2. The senior duo of Mike Kuhn and Victor Sowers were also victors in doubles play, winning 8-3.

Each of these four men went on to win their respective singles matches as well. Fenning played in the #2 spot, winning 7-5 and 6-2. Sowers and Kunh were playing in the #4 and #5 slots, respectively, winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0.

Filling in the #3 hole was Stefan Pastor who on 6-2, 6-0.

Occidental is now 1-2 overall this season. The Tigers will be back on the courts Friday, Feb. 20 when they host the University of Redlands at the Burbank Tennis Center beginning at 2:00 p.m.
