Oxy Plays Lights Out Against St. Johns

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 3, 2009) – Occidental played well, defeating the St. John’s (Minnesota) before the lights went out on Tuesday night. Ahead 6-1, the lights went out with two singles matches still in progress, but the Tigers had already secured the non conference victory.
St. John’s only victory came in the doubles portion of the event, as Chris Wan / Reid Fenning and the team of Jackson / Harrington picked up two victories out of the first three matches. Wan / Fenning cruised to an 8-4 win, while Jackson / Harrington had to battle back from down a break to pull out the 8-6 win.
Once singles play started, it was all Oxy, virtually winning every match (although two were not completed, Oxy had won the first set 6-0 and 6-2 of each match) en route to their second victory of the season. Wan picked up another win as he dominated at the number two position with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Mike Kuhn was equally impressive at number three, sweeping away his opposition 6-1, 6-4.
Next up for Occidental (2-5, 1-3) will be Colorado College, on Tuesday, March 17th, with play beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Tigers home courts.
