Tigers Pick Up Conference Win Over La Verne
LA VERNE, Calif. (April 4, 2009) – The Tigers in search of a win, found a big one in the form of a conference victory over the La Verne Leopards. Oxy dominated from the outset and cruised by the final score of eight to one.
The team of Chris Wan and Reid Fenning easily won at the number one doubles position by the score of 8-1. But Mike Kuhn and Victor Sowers were not to be overshadowed, as they also picked up a decisive 8-1 victory. Oxy picked up a default win in the third doubles match as La Verne did not have a team.
In singles it was more of the same, as Oxy won four out of five singles matches, picking up a fifth win by default as the Leopards did not have a sixth singles player. Wan picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at the number two position, but was followed up by back to back 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by Fenning and Sowers. It was a dominating performance, as La Verne only won 17 games all day, Oxy picking up a combined 74 game wins.
Next up for Occidental (4-8, 2-4) will be Cal Lutheran University at 2pm, on Saturday, April 11th, at the Burbank Tennis Center.
