Men’s track & field starts season 2-0 at SCIAC Quad meet one

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – In the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference quad meet of the spring, the Occidental College Tigers men’s and women’s track & field teams each recorded a pair of victories, defeating Caltech and Pomona-Pitzer. The University of Redlands also competed at the meet, although the Tigers did not score against the Bulldogs in this meeting.

After just two weeks of practice, freshman Kevin Cox won the long jump with a tremendous leap of 21’10 ¾”.

Classmate Jonathan Padron had another spectacular performance in the 100 meter winning the race in 10.85 seconds. Padron went on to anchor the winning 4x100 meter relay team, which crossed the line in 42.81.  

In the 800 meter run, the Tigers trio of freshman Avery Mainardi and the junior duo of Will Moseley and Thomas Cahuzac ran extremely well as a team crossing the line 1-2-3 in times of 1:56.08, 1:56.43, and 1:56.57, respectively.

Out in the field, junior hammer thrower Juan German won event with a toss of 149’2 ½”, which was 17 feet further than his nearest competitor and a 3 foot personal best. 

Occidental cruised to a 135-17 victory over Caltech while they defeated PP by a score of 108-49.

The Tigers will be at home on Saturday, March 11 when they host the Oxy/PP Dual Meet in conglomeration with the Oxy Distance Carnival.
