NEW ORLEANS — Colin Smith and the Occidental men's and women's track and field teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic awards after outstanding seasons in the classroom.
Smith, a perennial All-SCIAC distance specialist, posted a 3.4 grade point average in physics.
"Colin had a tremendous 2014 track and field season qualifying for his first NCAA DIII National Track & Field Championship in the 5000m," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "He also posted lifetime bests at 800m, 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m in the Spring. And this is Colin's 5th career All-Academic Award."
Each team was honored for maintaining at least a 3.1 grade point average as a group.
"I'm proud that both of our teams have been recognized for their academic achievements," Bartlett said. "At Occidental, we pride ourselves on the fact that are student-athletes are student's first and foremost."
