Valdes, Brahmst Land on Second Team All-SCIAC


LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov.14, 2007) – Announced today, a pair of Tigers water polo players were named to the 2007 Second Team All-SCIAC for their performances in the pool during the season.

The junior duo of Andrew Valdes and Cameron Brahmst each appeared in all of the Tigers’ 27 games. They were 1-2 in goals scored with 68 and 67, respectively, leading the team to 299 goals, the most offensive production in school history.

Valdes, an attacker from Whittier, Calif. also led the Tigers with eight field blocks and was second on the team with 29 assists and third with 33 steals. In 2005 Valdes was named the SCIAC Rookie of the Year.

Brahmst, a utility player from Fremont, Calif. led Oxy with 33 drawn ejections while ranking second on the team with 38 steals and third with five field blocks. In 2006 Brahmst earned All-America recognition. He improved on a 61 goal performance a year ago.

Oxy finished fifth at the SCIAC Championships with a conference record of 5-5. The Tigers finished a notch above .500 with a 14-13 overall record. Their 299 goals was the second most in the SCIAC this year behind a 367 goal performance by Redlands.

David Mock, a senior from Pomona-Pitzer, was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year. A full listing of All-SCIAC teams can be seen below.
