Valdes, Brahmst Named ACWPC All-Americans


LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan 30, 2009) – A pair of Tigers who have filled their trophy cases during their four-year careers on the men’s water polo team at Occidental College, added one more honor today as both Andrew Valdes and Cameron Brahmst were named All-Americans as voted on by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.

Valdes, an attacker who was nationally ranked throughout the season, scoring an Occidental record 88 goals in 20 games was named to the Second Team All America. He was second in the country in goals scored per game. Additionally, Valdes led the Tigers with 58 steals, adding 26 assists and 25 drawn ejections, which were both second on the squad.

Brahmst, utility player earned Honorable Mention after a season that saw him as the Tigers’ team-leader in both drawn ejections (52) and field blocks (five) while he finished second in goals scored (47) and was third with both 20 assists and 30 steals.

Each player also earned  First Team All-SCIAC honors as the Tigers finished the season

fourth in the SCIAC with a 7-3 record, marking the best conference mark in the tenure of head coach Larry Zubrin. Overall Oxy was 16-14.
