Oliver continues offensive outpouring in loss to Mt. SAC

WALNUT, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2009) – On the same day that junior attacker Austen Oliver was named the Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week, he added six goals in the Occidental College 17-11 loss to Mt. San Antonio College this afternoon on the road in non-conference play.

Oliver’s six goals in seven attempts, coupled with his team leading two assists and four drawn ejections was an offensive force to be reckoned with, however the Mounties opened up a 6-1 first quarter lead as they took a 9-2 advantage at the mid-way point of the match.

Occidental would combine for three goals in the third quarter, while limiting Mt. SAC to just four goals, but the damage had already been done. A fourth quarter come-back-effort fell short as Oxy netted six goals to the Mounties’ three. Greg Benz and Tai McDermott scored two goals each with Richard Dybas rounding out the scoring effort.

In front of the cage Max Kelly recorded nine blocks, adding an assist. McDermott and Brendan Whitmore came up with three steals apiece, with Oliver and Conrad Fihn each adding a pair.

The Tigers hit the road on Saturday morning, Oct. 17, to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against the Stags beginning at 11:00 a.m.
