Tigers tear past Beavers

PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2009) – Occidental College put on an offensive showcase on Wednesday afternoon in Pasadena as the Tigers defeated the Caltech Beavers 17-3 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown on the road.
Freshman Conrad Fihn and sophomore Brendan Whitmore scored three times apiece and three Tiger players scored twice each while all nine field players added at least one goal.
Greg Benz and Tai McDermott were both defensive nuisances for the Beavers with seven combined steals the three field blocks apiece to go along with two assists each. Benz scored a pair of goals and McDermott tallied one. Max Kelly found the back of the net twice for Oxy, adding an assist and a steal as the junior goalie continues to transition into playing the field for the Tigers
Scott Churchman made four saves in front of the cage for the Tigers while Kyle Reuther blocked five Beaver attempts.
Occidental improves to 6-12 overall and evens their SCIAC record
at 1-1. The Tigers are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 24 to
kick off Homecoming weekend with a league game against
Pomona-Pitzer at 11:00 a.m. in Taylor Pool.
