Tigers stumble against Sagehens, Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2010) – Occidental struggled on the road twice this week, falling in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens and Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen. Oxy dropped a 13-5 contest on Wednesday at PP before being doubled up by CLU, 14-7, today.

In the mid-week affair, Tai McDermott scored a pair of the Tigers' five goals, on just two shots, while Brendan Whitmore drew two ejections. Kevin Coleman also scored on his only attempt. Oxy was only able to convert three of their seven 6-on-5 situations into goals.

Kyle Reuther and Scott Churchman each manned the cage for two quarters, recording nine and five saves, respectively.

Today at the Samuelson Aquatics Center the Tigers and Kingsmen played tight with a score of 6-4 after the first quarter. Oxy was unable to add any goals in the second period while CLU opened their lead up to 9-4 at the midway point of the game.

The Tigers looked to McDermott for his second goal of the game right after the break. Whitmore netted his second of the afternoon with just over two minutes to play in the third and Coleman rounded out the scoring in the stanza and in the game. Oxy was again scoreless in the final period of play.

Whitmore, Coleman and Josh Kantor each drew two ejections in the game and Kantor added a couple of assists. Both Richard Dybas and Kenji Hammon scored in his only attempt of the game.

Reuther played the entire game, stopping nine Kingsmen shots while grabbing three steals. Whitmore finished with a pair of steals as well.
