Oxy Edged By Cal Lutheran in Home Opener

LOS ANGELESBrett Luch scored a game-high six goals and Theo Bass added three.

But the Occidental men's water polo team came up a little short in its first SCIAC game and home game of the year, falling 14-12 to Cal Lutheran at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.

Luch scored the game-tying goal, making it 10-10, with 6 minutes left in the game on a 6-on-5 opportunity. Cal Lutheran answered with a pair of goals and maintained a two-goal lead for the rest of the game.

Matt Weiser made eight saves and had three steals in the cage for the Tigers. Matt Otsuka, Nicolas Lipari and Elijah Havens all scored one goal, rounding out Oxy's scorers.

Davy Thomas led the Kingsmen with five goals, and Chirs Gardhouse, George French, Taggart Diehl and George Lundgren each added two goals. 

The Tigers fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in SCIAC play.

Cal Lutheran improves to 2-5 and 1-0.

Oxy is back in action with a pair of home games on Saturday. Oxy faces Whittier at 11 a.m. and Orange Coast College at 4:30 p.m.
