Luch Scores Five Against OCC

LOS ANGELESBrett Luch scored five goals and the Occidental men's water polo team had a lead late in the fourth quarter.

But Orange Coast College made plays down the stretch and the Tigers couldn't grab their first win in a narrow 17-16 loss at Taylor Pool on Saturday.

The Tigers were playing the second game of a Saturday doubleheader. Oxy fell to Whittier in Game 1.

Oxy's offense wasn't the issue. Along with Luch's effort, Elijah Havens had four goals, Leo Sonner and Theo Bass each had two, and Nicolas Lipari, Walter Sandbloom and Matt Otsuka each had one.

The challenge was stopping OCC's Eduardo Wainberg, who had a game-high seven goals, and Gabriele Simonti, who had four goals and four assists.

Lipari's goal put Oxy up 16-15 with 3:02 left before OCC scored two unanswered goals to take the game.

Oxy's Alexander Zim had three assists and a pair of steals. Sonner had four steals and two assists.

Oxy falls to 0-7 and 0-2.

The Tigers are back in action at Caltech on Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
