LOS ANGELES — Matt Weiser was named an ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention in December after a standout season for the Occidental men's water polo team.
Weiser, a 6-foot-6 senior from Winnetka, Ill., played both center and goalie for the Tigers this season. He scored 25 goals in conference play and made a total of 79 saves in the net.
"Matt has always been a force in the center position. This year, he sacrificed for his teammates and played half the year in goal," Oxy head coach Jack Stabenfeldt said. "When he returned to the field, he didn't miss a beat. He really cares about this program and I'm happy to see that he was recognized as an All-American this year."
One of Weiser's biggest performances came on senior day when he lit up the net for six goals against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Weiser is still in the pool as one of the standout members of the Occidental men's swimming and diving team. He is one of the team's top breaststrokers in the 100 and 200, and is looking to lead the team's relays to All-Conference honors at the SCIAC Championships in February.
Weiser will graduate this spring with a degree in Geology and a minor in Biology. After graduation, Matt plans to study Geochemistry in graduate school.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
