Oxy Goes 4-0 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — The Occidental men's water polo team ran the table in San Diego, winning all four of its games on Friday and Saturday. Oxy beat San Diego Mesa and San Diego St. on Friday, and then Saddleback and Fullerton on Saturday.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 7-1 on the season.

Game 1: Occidental 16, San Diego Mesa 9

Jason Teng led Oxy with six goals, Alex Marlott had three and Hayden Comerford added two. Wilson Noll, Elijah Havens, Nicolas Lipari, Cian Concannon and Jasper Lee all scored one goal. 

"It was a great start to the weekend," Oxy head coach Jack Stabenfeldt said. "We need to keep being disciplined and maintain our defensive pressure throughout the tournament."

Game 2: Occidental 14, San Diego St. 9

Teng and Havens each scored three goals as Oxy won its second game of the day.

Oxy scored seven unaswered goals in the third quarter to come from a 7-5 deficit and take control of the game.

"We played out best game of the year," Stabenfeldt said. "We're looking forward to two more battles on Saturday."

Game 3: Occidental 15, Fullerton 7

Lee and Teng scored three goals, and Concannon and Alexander Zim each added two as Oxy started Saturday with a victory, moving to 3-0 on the weekend.

Game 4: Occidental 13, Saddleback 12

The Tigers finished the weekend with a victory, winning a wild game against Saddleback.

Oxy fell behind 5-1, but buckled down, played great defense and rallied for the win. Comerford played outstanding defense against Saddleback drivers.

Zim and Havens had three goals, and Concannon and Teng added two. 

Next Game: The Tigers are back for their second SCIAC game of the season, playing at Chapman on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
