Kleinsasser Leads Tiger Men at West Region Preview Meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2009) The men's cross country team had a chance to run on the same course that would determine who would represent the west region at the National Championships. Pomona Pitzer Colleges not only hosted this past weekend's West Region Preview Meet but will also host the West Region Championships in mid November. This weekend Oxy's best effort went to Sophomore Eric Kleinsasser, who finished third overall, and continues to be a force for the men who finished third in the event.
A third place finish was somewhat of a letdown for Kleinasser, who ran faster this past week in practices, but had to settle for a time of 25:40.10. Freshman Mario Castillo was the next Tiger to place for the black & orange, with a time of 26:46.88, but Castillo should be someone to keep an eye on. He is still adjusting to the 8k and will improve significantly over the next few weeks. Fellow first year Charlie Sauter was the next Tiger home in 27th place (27:19.94). Senior Victor Kali and sophomore Thomas Cahuzac rounded out the Tiger's top 5.
The Tigers take the weekend off before competing at the SCIAC Multi Duals on Saturday October 17th at La Mirada Regional Park. These first two meets were nothing more than preparation, as the most important part of the season remains, as 50% of the final conference points will be on the line.
