Leary, Tigers Run Fast at UCR

LOS ANGELESKeenan Leary and the Occidental men's cross country team had a big early season meet at UC Riverside on Saturday.

Leary, a senior form Seattle, led the way, setting a 30-second personal record in the 8k at 25:20.6. He finished in third place in the non-Division I open run.

Thomas Robertson also had a big 30-second PR, running well on the second half of the race to finish at 25:55.1 for 16th overall.

Austin Sankaran was Oxy's second-best finisher in 12th at 25:48.4 and Tristan Santos finished in 14th at 25:50.9

Brody Barkan, the reigning SCIAC Men's Runner of the Week, placed 21st at 26:04.04.

Daniel Essayan had the best day of his career, setting a 1-minute personal record.

"That was probably one of the best early season performances the men have had in my tenure," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "They raced assertively with confidence and were rewarded with many stand out performances."

The Tigers are back in action at the SCIAC Multi Dual at La Mirada on Sept. 29 at 4:45 p.m.
