Oxy Hosting NCAA West Regional on Nov. 11

CLAREMONT — Occidental College is all set to host the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships at Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 11.

The men's race is first at 9 a.m. with the women to follow at 10 a.m.

What's at Stake: Regional championship and automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 18 in Elsah, IL. 

Men's Preview: No. 1 in the West Pomona-Pitzer is the favorite on the men's side, looking to return to the top of the Region. Andy Reischling is the Sagehens leader and SCIAC runner of the year after going undefeated in conference competition. The Sagehens will be pushed by SCIAC rival and host Oxy, which is led by Keenan Leary and Austin Sankaran

Women's Preview: No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps looks to defend its regional title, coming into the meet as the No. 6 team nationally. The Athenas are led by Brynn McKillop, the SCIAC Runner of the Year. CMS' biggest competition will come from No. 2/No. 19 Whitworth, No. 3/No. 32 Linfield and No. 4/No. 34 Colorado College. The Occidental women also have an opportunity to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships after a strong showing at Pre-Nationals last month.

Whitworth is led by Kayla Leland who is the first individual Northwest Conference Champion in the Pirates' history. 

NCAA Championship Selection: Teams that finish outside the top two may have an opportunity to earn an at-large bid. The selection committee makes its announcement on Sunday at noon.
