Redlands 9, Occidental 1; Redlands 11, Occidental 2
Occidental dropped a pair of SCIAC contests to defending league
champion Redlands Saturday March 3 at Field of Dreams in Redlands,
Calif. The Tigers overall record now stands at 0-14, 0-6
SCIAC. Redlands improved to 4-3, 4-1 SCIAC.
Redlands' Katie Brnca, an All-SCIAC First Team selection in 2006,
shut out Occidental for the first four innings in game one.
The Bulldogs homered twice and scored seven runs in the third
inning.
Rebecca Nashleanas '09 doubled to left center in the 5th and
advanced to third on a base hit by Alyssa Smith '10. Smith
was later caught trying to steal second but Nashleanas scored on
the throw.
Carey Crowell '07 stroked a fourth-inning single and pitched all
four innings for the Tigers.
Occidental held an early 1-0 lead in game two before Redlands
scored eleven runs in the last two innings.
Dior Williams '10, a new addition from the Oxy women's basketball
team, cracked a double to right center in the second inning and
later scored on a single by Smith.
Crowell doubled and scored on a passed ball in the fourth
inning.
Occidental travels to Claremont, Calif. Saturday March 10 for a
SCIAC doubleheader with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-9, 2-4).
The Tigers face Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (NJ) Sunday March 11 at
Bell Field and will compete in the Sunwest Tournament at Orange,
Calif. March 14 against Wis.-Platteville & Puget
Sound.
Game time vs. FDU-Florham is 12 noon.
