Redlands 9-14, Occidental 1-1
The young Occidental softball squad dropped a pair of SCIAC
contests April 14 against Redlands, a hot team looking to earn its
third consecutive league title. Redlands (21-8, 14-4) has now
won five straight and eight of its last nine. Occidental fell
to 2-28, 2-16 SCIAC.
Alyssa Escalante '10 whacked a double to right center in the fourth
inning of game one to score Alice Bauer '10, who pinch-ran for
Teresa Brabant '10.
Brabant doubled to left in the third inning of game two to plate
Ashley Pond '09.
Catcher Nicky Neumann had a monster day for Redlands, recording six
hits in seven at-bats with nine runs batted in. Neumann
clobbered a two-run homer down the left field line in the first
inning of game one and went four for four in game two with two
singles, a double, and a triple.
The Bulldogs jumped on Occidental early in the second game, scoring
ten runs in the first inning. Dior Williams '10 made a
leaping grab at shortstop in the first and Alex Farley '07 robbed
Kolbi Sprague with an over-the-shoulder catch in left center in the
third.
Carey Crowell '07 pitched a combined 5 2/3 innings, all in relief,
and allowed ten hits with three earned runs.
Occidental hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (11-20, 7-9 SCIAC) Friday,
April 20 in its final home doubleheader of the season. First
pitch is scheduled for 2pm at Bell Field.
