Softball Takes the Diamond for a New Season

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2008) – Under the leadership of newly named head coach Jodie Cox the Tigers look to improve on a disappointing 2007 season. Sophomore catcher Alyssa Escalante earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors following her freshman campaign in which she led the team with a .360 batting average, 32 hits, seven doubles and 42 total bases, while strikeout out just four times. Behind the plate she put up a .981 fielding percentage, starting all 36 games.

Also rejoining the Tigers for another season on the diamond are the lone senior, pitcher Kelli Moriguchi, four juniors and four sophomores. Rounding out the young Tigers’ squad are seven freshman, many of whom will make immediate impacts on the program.

Occidental will play a 38-game schedule against teams from up and down the west coast as well as a pair against Wesleyan (CT). The Tigers open at home with a pair of games against NAIA Menlo College on Sunday, Feb. 10.
