LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 30, 2008) – She played hard every day and worked to improve throughout the season. The time that freshman shortstop Gabriela Chavez put in this year was rewarded as she was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC as the only Tiger representative in 2008.
Chavez, named the At-Large player, started all 36 games for Occidental during her freshman campaign and saw herself batting in the lead-off, second and third spots in the order during the season.

In the field Chavez posted a .906 fielding percentage with 46 putouts and 60 assists.
Overall in 2008 Chavez was second on the team with a .307 average. Her 35 hits included five doubles, a triple and a homerun.
