Funaki Pitches Complete Game Against Willamette

LOS ANGELES -- Alexis Funaki pitched a complete game and went 2 for 3 with a RBI-triple.

But the Occidental softball team couldn't erase an early lead, falling to Willamette 4-2 in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Bell Field on Sunday.

Funaki struck out five and gave up just two earned runs.

"She adapted really well to strong Willamette hitters," Oxy coach Ali Haehnel said. 

Natalie Glover went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored for Oxy. Kira Elliot, Mariah Montgomery, Madison Romero and Molly O'Connor all went 1 for 3.

Oxy gave up two runs in the top of the first and two more in the fifth.

Jade Smith pitched a complete game for the Bearcats, earning the victory.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 7-14.

Willamette improves to 6-1.

Next Game: The Tigers and Bearcats finish their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
