Elliott Leads Oxy Past Chapman

ORANGE — The Occidental softball team split its doubleheader at Chapman on Saturday, falling in Game 1, 4-3, and winning Game 2, 8-4.

Game 1: Chapman 4, Occidental 3

The Tigers were able to get one run back in the top of the seventh and give the Panthers a late-inning scare, but fell 4-3 in Game 1.

Dallas Boyce gave up just one earned run in four innings as Oxy's starter. Olivia Thayer pitched two scoreless innings in relief to follow her, allowing just two hits and no walks. 

Chapman got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Alexis Funaki doubled in a run and Bailey Stevens singled in another as Oxy cut the Panthers' lead to 3-2 in the fourth.

Mackensie Priley had an RBI-single in the seventh.

Game 2: Occidental 8, Chapman 4

Kira Elliott had a big game, going 3 for 5 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. She drove in Oxy's first run in the top of the third inning and also had an RBI-single during a two-run sixth.

The Tigers rallied for four runs in the fourth, giving themselves a comfortable cushion.

Alexis Funaki pitched a complete game for Oxy, earning the victory. She gave up three earned runs in her seven innings.

Four Tigers joined Elliot with multi-hit games. Cora Roberts went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, Bailey Stevens went 2 for 3, Cayman Hunter was 2 for 4 and Natalie Glover went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored. 

Season Impact: The Tigers conference record goes to 8-12, putting them two games back of the fourth-and-final SCIAC playoff spot with eight games to play.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Cal Lutheran next Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.
