Oxy Hands Hamline First Loss of the Season

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental softball team split with Hamline at Bell Field on Friday. Oxy fell 6-0 in Game 1 and won 4-3 to hand Hamline its first loss of the season in Game 2.

Oxy is now 6-12-1 and Hamline is 5-1.

Game 1: Hamline 6, Occidental 0

The Tigers struggled to get anything going on offense, managing three hits in the loss.

Hamline starter Kira Kreuger went five innings without a run and then Alex Molloy finished it off with a pair of perfect innings.

Alexis Funaki went 4.1 innings, giving up two earned, and was charged with the loss. 

Cora Roberts was 1 for 3 with a double for Oxy, and Bailey Stevens and Stephanie Stamnes each singled. 

Game 2: Occidental 4, Hamline 3

Oxy got a solid pitching effort from Dallas Boyce, who started the game, going four innings with one earned run and three strikeouts in the winning effort.

Alexis Funaki went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Natalie Glover was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Mackensie Priley was 1 for 3 with a run scored, and Bailey Stevens went 1 for 3.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Western Connecticut St. at 11 a.m.
