Swim/Dive Season Concludes with SCIAC Championships


CERRITOS, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2008) – Occidental College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned home from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships as the fourth and fifth place teams in the conference, respectively.

Every Oxy swimmer recorded a season best in every event this weekend, while many lifetime best times were recorded.

Celeste Faber set a new Meet Record with her 424.40 one-meter diving performance as she earned first place honors. Faber broke fellow Tiger Arin Dailey’s score of 392.50 which stood as the meet record between 1999 and today.

On the three meter board Faber earned a second place finish (370.50), returning home with a pair of All-SCIAC recognitions. Joining Faber with solid performances was freshman Kyle Owens who finished third on both the one and three meter boards with scores of 327.35 and 330.10, respectively. Owens also earned All-SCIAC honors in both events.

Senior Dickson Fai earned a trio of individual All-SCIAC honors as he won the 100 backstroke (51.61), finished second in the 200 backstroke (1:54.29) and third in the 400 IM (4:17.48). Additionally, Fai was a member of the second place 400 Medley and 200 Medley relay teams.

The 400 Medley Relay team of Fai, Jeven Dovey, Toshi Baker and Adam Kantor finished in 3:32.67, just .43 seconds behind the winning Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team. In the 200 Medley Relay event the same athletes finished in 1:36.60, just over a second behind the same CMS team.

Dovey also came back with an All-SCIAC award after placing third in the 100 breaststroke. He finished in 1:00.51 behind SCIAC Male Swimmer of the Year Manny Sanchez from Whittier College who finished in 57.45.

Finally, Renae Rykaczewski set a new Oxy school record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.61.

Faber’s meet record was one of two set this weekend. The other was by CMS freshman Annie Perizzolo in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.19), who took home SCIAC Female Swimmer of the Year honors.
