Swimmers Sink Records in Prelims, Watch Now

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2009) – Occidental College swimmers wasted no time in making a splash at the 2009 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool located in Long Beach, Calif.
During preliminary swims on Thursday morning, three athletes set new school records, two coming in the same race. Mallory Ryan earned an NCAA “B” cut in the 200 IM, a race in which her and senior Eliza Callwood both broke the previous school record of 2:14.51 which was set in 2002 by Rachel Hendrickson.
Caldwell also broke Kay Ceske’s 24-year old 50 freestyle record of 24.95 with a career best time of 24.7.
The Tiger men also had some swimmers qualify for the finals tonight. Adam Kantor is now just .31 seconds off the school record in the 50 freestyle while Zach Condon and Jeven Dovey both earned the right to swim tonight in the 200 IM final.
If you can’t make it out to the pool, check out the SCIAC website where there is a link to the Floswimming, who will be broadcasting races from the 2009 SCIAC Championships.
