Track and Field Hall of Fame Inducts Sherman Miller

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 2, 2008) – Occidental College was proud to induct Sherman Miller to the Track and Field Hall of Fame.
During this collegiate career, Miller was an elite 400 meter runner from 1950-51. At the NCAA National Championships he placed fourth among his peers from across the country after finishing the race in 47 seconds. At this time in history there was only one Championship for all divisions, thus making the freshman the fourth fastest collegiate runner among all colleges in the country, not just Division III. Additionally he was an outstanding relay runner for the Tigers.
The following year Miller left Occidental on a quest to make the US Olympic Team. At the 1952 Olympic Trials he earned a sixth place finish in the 400 meter event. Falling just short of representing his country at the Games in Helsinki, Finland, Miller continued to run competitively at the international level where he was ranked in the world. He specialized in the 4x400 meter relay, turning in an impressive 46 second split.
Miller was the only member inducted into the Oxy Hall of Fame in 2008.
