Duo Named SCIAC Champions on Day 1 of Track and Field Championship


CLAREMONT, Calif. (April 26, 2008) – On day one of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships the Tigers came home with a pair of SCIAC Champions.

For the men, senior Chris Kyles was victorious in the discus with an incredible throw of 158’11” to capture the title. His throw was over six feet further than his closest competitor. Kyles recorded a huge personal record and now holds the 11th best mark in all of Division III across the nation.

One the women’s side junior pole valuter Kera Bartlett cleared 11’5.75” to claim the top spot.

 

In addition, sophomore Grace Peck earned a provisional qualifying mark for nationals in the 3000m steeplechase, which she ran 10:49.13. She set a new personal record and broke her own  school record by 27 seconds. Peck’s time now ranks her fifth in Division III. She placed second to Evelyn Ross from CMS who is currently ranked third in Division III.

 

The championships will continue tomorrow afternoon at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
