Tigers Compete at Cal/Nevada Championships

WESTWOOD, CALIF. (Mar. 29, 2009) – A number of Occidental College track and field athletes traveled down to UCLA on Saturday and Sunday to partake in the 2009 Cal/Nevada Championships with some of the top performers from all divisions. All of the athletes who qualified for the meet had good weekends, coming away with a number of seasonal and lifetime best performances.
Senior Kera Bartlett provided the highlight of the meet for the Tigers in the women's pole vault. In a competition dominated by Division I athletes, Bartlett rose to the occasion clearing a Division III national leading height of 12’2”. Her vault was good for joint sixth place at the meet and was an 8-inch improvement on her previous best mark of 2009.
First year Claire Larson also produced a seasonal best performance in the 800m. She competed well with her Division I opponents through the first 400m of her race and finished strongly in a time of 2:17.49.
On the men’s side, freshman Eric Kleinsasser dropped an incredible 20 seconds from his life time best in the 5000m. He ran a smart, controlled race from start to finish and was rewarded with a new personal record (PR) of 14:50.49, which ranks him second in the SCIAC for 2009 and is just five seconds away from a National qualifying time.
Another first year who came through with a strong performance was Will Moseley who took advantage of the good competition to record a new lifetime best in the 800m. His time of 1:56.03 was over a second faster than his best time in high school and ranks him first in the conference this year.
Junior Sam Huie also had a good meet in the triple jump as he leapt out to 45’4.25”, which is a new seasonal best mark by two inches.
