Bartlett Vaults to Ninth in the Nation

MARIETTA, Ohio. (May 22, 2009) – For the third consecutive season senior Kera Bartlett traveled to the Division III Track & Field National Championships where she competed in the pole vault for the final time.
After earning her third straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship title with a vault of 12’, Bartlett added to her season-best clearing 12’2.5” at Nationals, finishing ninth. She narrowly missed clearing the next height or 12’6.25” on her third attempt. She also finished just one spot away from earning All-American status as she cleared the 12’2.5” height on her third attempt while the eighth place finisher cleared it on her second attempt.
Conversely, the women's vault competition in Marietta was the best Division III vault competition ever. Nine women cleared 12'2 1/2", seven cleared 12'6 1/4", three cleared 12'10 1/4" and the winner Rachel Secrest from North Central College, cleared an NCAA Championships record of 13'2 1/4". Bartlett's clearance of 12'2 1/2" would of earned her an All-American finish in every other National Championships ever held.
Bartlett’s career comes to and end, but her name remains etched in the Oxy record books with her 12’8” clearance in 2008.
