Since taking over the Occidental College Track & Field and Cross Country programs in January of 2007, Rob Bartlett has led the cross country teams to five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships — three with the men and two with the women — coached 24 individual SCIAC Champions and has twice been named the USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country West Region Coach of the Year. In 2011, Bartlett led the men's cross country team to its first NCAA Division III West Region title since the program last won it in 1991.

On the national level, the Tigers have had 12 All-American performances and 37 Academic All-Americans during Coach Bartlett’s tenure. Student-athletes coached by Bartlett have broken eight Occidental Track & Field School Records and produced 59 performances that currently rank amongst the top ten ever in Occidental track & field history.

Bartlett joined the Occidental coaching staff in 2005 as an assistant cross country and track & field coach. As an assistant, Bartlett helped coach the men’s cross country team to it’s first SCIAC Championship in 11 years in 2006.

Prior to coaching at Occidental Bartlett competed for the Tigers as an exchange student in 2003 before completing his undergraduate studies at the University of East Anglia in his native United Kingdom.

Bartlett is a USATF Level Two certified coach in sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, and endurance events.

Tyler joined the Occidental coaching ranks in 2007 after being recruited to Eagle Rock. While he has been coaching the track & field program since 2007.

Since joining the Tigers, Yamaguchi has coached 46 all-conference performances, four SCIAC Championships and an All-American. He has served as the sprints, hurdles and relay coach and will add jumps to his repertoire this spring. 

Prior to joining the Oxy family, Tyler coached at his alma mater, Punahou High School, between 2004-2007 while he was attending the University of Hawaii. There he coached the 2007 state champion in the 200m, 400m and 4x400 relay.

Additionally, he holds a USATF Level II Certification in sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps.

Andy Steben

Andy Steben returns for his 33rd season as pole vault coach.  During his tenure, Steben has produced numerous standout performers including College record holder All-American Kera Bartlett '09, and 2001 NCAA All-American and 2002 NCAA qualifier Marisa Omori '03.  While a student at Occidental College (1966-69), Steben competed in three NCAA Championship meets, vaulted in three AAU Championships, won the national NAIA title in each of his three tries, and set the school record (his 16'8" is still second on the all-time list).  Steben, a teacher in San Marino, graduated from Oxy with a degree in physical education.  He resides in Alhambra with his wife Anne.  They have five children (son Ted played on the Tiger basketball team while an undergraduate at the College).

Wistcher, a native of Corona, Calif., is entering his 4th year as a coach with the Occidental Track and Field Program.

He is a graduate of Fresno State and has previously coached at Harvard-Westlake.

 

Kelli Blake

Blake is entering her second year at Oxy after recently graduating from Washington University in St. Louis where she ran cross country and track.  In track Kelli ran middle distance, primarily the 800m.  She was an indoor All-American on Wash. U.’s Distance Medley Relay and a nine-time UAA All-Conference runner.  

In her first year she coached three All-SCIAC performers in the 800m, including Cole Williams who won the SCIAC title in the 800m, placed sixth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Nationals.

Kelli is originally from Littleton, Colorado and is certified as a USATF Level 1 coach.
