Roshon Leads Tigers to 77-50 Victory

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2007) – Occidental never trailed, taking a commanding 49-28 halftime lead en route to a 77-59 victory over NAIA Menlo College tonight at Rush Gymnasium.
Senior guard Stacie Roshon poured in 29 points, hitting eight shots from behind the arc, while grabbing six boards and dishing out three assists. Junior transfer Brianne Brown also hit double figures with 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the field, adding a team high three steals.
Nine different Oxy players scored, including 24 points from the bench. Sophomore guard Brittany Mally scored five points in just two minutes of action for the Tigers.
Occidental slightly outrebounded Menlo 38-37, grabbing 13 offensive boards. For the second straight game freshman Stephanie Babij tallied 11 rebounds. Brown, and sophomores Gillian Nugent and Jessica Cross each pulled down five rebounds.
Babij and Asha Jordan were solid at the stripe, going 3-for-3 and 2-2 respectively.
The Tigers’ pair of sophomore guards, Laura Mohler and Britinee Yasukochi, each handed out six assists while Nugent supplied Oxy with four.
As a team Occidental shot 42.6 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the line. Each team scored 17 points off turnovers, 16 of those coming in the first half for Oxy.
The Oaks were led by 25 points from Kepua Lee while Emily Zygmontowicz recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, leading all players. Overall Menlo shot 39.3 % from the field and 50% from the free throw line.
Occidental improves to 3-1 overall on the season as the Oaks fall to 2-4.
The Tigers will be back on the court Wednesday evening when they host the Golden Eagles from La Sierra University at 7:30 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium.
