Brown Named to All-West Region Second Team


LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 17, 2009) – After earning her second consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor, Brianne Brown was again tabbed Second Team All-West Region as announced by d3hoops.com today.

During her second season as a Tiger, Brown led Occidental (22-6) to the best finish in the history of the program when the team advanced to the First Round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

Brown finished her senior campaign with 13.0 points per game after shooting 43.6% from the field on 125-for-287 shooting. She added a 37.4 three-point field goal percentage, sinking 43 of 115 attempts. At the free-throw line Brown was 70-for-96 (72.9%).

She also grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game. Overall Brown came down with 53 offensive boards, while grabbing 105 defensive. She posted a team-high 19 blocks for the Tigers as well. Brown was second on the team with 72 steals and third with 60 assists.

In her two seasons at Oxy Brown appeared in 54 games. She scored a combined 764 points (14.1 ppg), making 278 field goals adding 367 rebounds (6.8 rpg), 130 assists, 45 blocked shots and 148 steals.

Occidental claimed their second straight SCIAC title (with a 12-2 record) and earned the right to represent the SCIAC in the NCAA Division III Postseason after defeating Whittier in the SCIAC Tournament Semi-Final and the University of La Verne in the SCIAC Tournament Championship game.

The All-West Region Team is voted on by all the Sports Information Directors in the region and was released Tuesday on D3hoops.com.
