Babij lands on All West Region First Team
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 19, 2010) Announced earlier this week Occidental junior womens basketball stand-out Stephanie Babij was named to the First Team All-West Region by d3hoops.com.

Babij named Player of the Year, Brandon, Williams earn All-SCIAC
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 3, 2010) She was the go-to player all season for the Tigers and after the coaches met for their end-of-season meeting, Stephanie Babij was named the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference womens basketball Player of the Year. Her role on the SCIAC co-champion Occidental College Tigers was evident to the other seven voting parties and her numbers spoke for themselves. Joining the junior center with All-SCIAC honors were freshman Makenzie Brandon and senior Dior Williams.

Black and Orange fall in tournament final
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) The 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference womens basketball tournament championship game was a night filled with big plays. The third meeting between the University of Redlands and the Tigers was marked with great defense that resulted in both teams shooting under 35% from the field, putting each possession under intense scrutiny, as every score put each team one step closer to an NCAA tournament berth. It took overtime to finally decide a winner, and the Bulldogs got the better of this match up, escaping Rush Gymnasium with a 55-54 victory.

Playoff Picture: Basketball teams set to play in SCIAC Tournaments
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2010) Both teams finished their respective 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference seasons tied. The womens team placed first, with the mens team knotted in a three-way tie for second. A share of the womens SCIAC title, put the Tigers as the No. 1 seed and they will host No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, while the men, who dropped to the No. 4 seed will be at CMS on Friday to play the No. 1 seeded Stags.

Tigers survive upset bid to advance to title game
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2010) A term that is used way to often in sports, but one that perfectly describes the clash that took place tonight in Rush Gymnasium between the Athenas and Tigers, because it truly was a shame that either of these determined squads had to lose tonight. Playing like they were the top seed for most of the second half, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps opened up a 10 point lead with ten minutes left in the game, and held a one point lead with three minutes remaining. But Oxy responded with a 7-2 run, fueled by the defense of Dior Williams, to will themselves past the upset minded squad from Claremont, in the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post season tournament, by the final score of 72-69.

Bulldogs upend streaking Tigers
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) In what could be a preview of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship, the Bulldogs and Tigers locked up in a very physical game, that saw momentum change jerseys several times. Unlike last time when the Tigers outlasted the Bulldogs in a nail biter, Redlands tonight was more aggressive and snapped the 12 game winning streak of Oxy with a decisive 66-54 win.

Black and Orange clinch third straight SCIAC title
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2010) - With a share of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title on the line tonight, and facing the University of La Verne, a squad that had faced the Tigers in the finals of the SCIAC conference tournament the past two seasons, and with the squad donning pink laces in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, no more motivation was needed for Oxy to bring their best tonight. And it showed, as the Tigers put their foot on the gas and never looked back tonight, rolling to a 76-41 victory over the Leopards.

Balanced attack helps knock off Caltech
PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2010) The conference leading black and orange used five players double digit scoring nights to knockoff the upstart Beavers. Caltech has gotten better and better over the past two years, and it showed tonight, as they played one of their best games of the season. But it wasnt enough as the Tigers spread out the offense and won for the 11th straight time, by the final score of 71-62.

Tigers alone at the top after win over Cal Lutheran
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2010) With first place on the line, neither team disappointed in this Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference heavyweight match up, between Cal Lutheran and Occidental. Both teams entered the night with identical 9-1 conference records to go along 17-4 overall marks. The back and forth game, came down to the last three minutes, as both teams sat tied at 51 apiece. Then Dior Williams, ignited a 7-0 run that proved the difference, in the Tigers 60-55 victory.

Black and Orange Pull Out Overtime Thriller at CMS
CLAREMONT, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2010) The Tigers squeaked out a road victory by riding the double double performance of Stephanie Babij and surviving a great overall effort from CMS. After shooting so poorly in the first match up, CMS stepped up from the field and played great defense, but the Tigers made just enough plays to steal the 76-73 victory.

Tigers Leave No Doubt in Rematch against Whittier
WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 4, 2010) After trailing at halftime in the first match up against Whittier, before falling to their only loss in SCIAC play, the black and orange had plans for a different ending. Oxy came in tonight playing at a different level and it showed right from the opening tipoff. Blazing out to a 39-20 lead by intermission, the Tigers were going to make sure they avenged the earlier loss, and then rolled to their eighth victory in a row by the final margin of 71-53.

Black and Orange Extend Winning Streak to Seven with Win over Sagehens
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2010) Last time these two teams tangled, Pomona Pitzer walked into halftime with a 36-28 lead, and the Tigers had to claw their way to a road win. Tonight they were back in the friendly confines of Rush Gymnasium, and made sure their defense did not put them in the same position, as they surrendered only 14 first half points and cruised to a 72-44 victory.

30 Point Night by Babij was just enough to Knockoff Redlands in Nail Biter
REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2010) Riding another stellar night by Stephanie Babij, the Tigers were able to hold off a late rally to stay in the hunt for their third consecutive regular season conference title. The host Bulldogs went into halftime up five and twenty minutes away from holding onto the top spot in the conference, but then a 16-0 run to start the half by the Tigers, fueled by 18 second half points by Babij, was too much for Redlands to overcome.

Tigers Move into First Place Tie with Win at La Verne
LA VERNE, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2010) - An 11-0 run late in the first half changed the entire complexion of this hard fought SCIAC match up, as Oxy seized control away from La Verne, and held on to pick up a huge conference road win. To that point the host Leopards had been able to match each Oxy score with one of their own, but after that run, it was the Tigers (5-1) who kept La Verne at bay for the rest of the game. Coupled with a loss by Redlands (5-1) at the hands of Cal Lutheran (5-1), all three teams now sit atop the conference with identical records.

Oxy Depth Sparks Victory over Caltech
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2010) - After a methodical first half, the Tigers turned to their depth and overwhelmed the visiting Beavers, blowing the game open in the second half, en route to a 68-30 home conference victory. Caltech kept the deficit to single digits for most of the first half, going into halftime down 31-21, but a frenetic Tiger pace, aided by fresh legs, was too much for the visitors to handle as they could only muster nine points in the half as Oxy ran to a conference victory.

(Jan. 16, 2010) The Tigers were down five points with 4:38 remaining in regulation when senior Gillian Nugent took the Black and Orange on her shoulders, scoring the next nine points, turning the deficit into an advantage before Oxy knocked down four more free-throws to seal a 72-69 victory as Occidental College handed California Lutheran University their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season this evening at the Gilbert Arena.

Tigers Return to Winning Ways with Win over CMS
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2010) After a tough loss Saturday, the Tigers couldnt wait to get back on the floor, and it showed as they sprinted out to a 26-10 lead tonight against CMS on their way to a home victory . The visiting Athenas did not go down without a fight, battling back to cut the deficit to within striking distance several times, but they could never overtake the lead and fell to their third straight conference loss.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 9, 2010) The visiting Poets came in and executed a great game plan in the opening half tonight, knocking the Tigers on its heels, while opening up a double digit lead. Oxy responded, and by late in the second half had a comfortable lead and control of the game, seemingly on their way to a conference victory. Whittier had other ideas, finishing on a 14-2 run, to stun the Tigers and escape with a huge victory on the road.

Babij paces pack past Pomona-Pitzer with double-double
CLAREMONT, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2009) When the Tigers took the court for the first time in 2010, after a seven day span without a game, the womens basketball team found itself down at the intermission. A solid 24-point, 11 rebound performance from junior Stephanie Babij was the difference as the Black and Orange rallied to erase an eight point deficit at the half en route to a 62-53 victory in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.

Defense Leads Tigers to Win Over Anderson
ORANGE, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2009) On day two of the Tiger Panther Classic, both the Tigers and co host Chapman Panthers picked up victories, as Chapman defeated the University of Texas at Dallas 69-52 while Oxy also cruised to a 73-58 victory. The Tigers rebounded from a tough loss yesterday and came out today with a renewed passion on defense, forcing 23 turnovers as their defensive pressure wore out the visiting Ravens.

Tigers Come Up Short on Day One of the Tiger Panther Classic
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2009) The Tigers returned to the hardwood tonight to co host the annual Tiger Panther Classic. Both games today were held on the campus of Occidental College in Rush Gymnasium, where co host Chapman University pulled out a 64-55 win over Anderson University, in the opening matchup. Oxy was not as fortunate, as they squared off with the University of Texas-Dallas in the nightcap, falling by the final score of 71-63.

Babij Comes Through in the Clutch for Oxy
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2009) -Lakeland College came to Los Angeles with a nine game winning streak, and if not for the big second half of Stephanie Babij, that streak would have continued. The visiting Muskies pride themselves on defensive intensity and the Tigers put their defense on display this afternoon as well, as both teams had to work hard on every offensive possession, facing defenses that extended the full length of the court right from the opening whistle. Oxy came up with the bigger plays late, though, edging Lakeland by the final score of 62-58.

Lewis & Clark Hand Tigers a Tough Loss
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2009) On the final day of the Tiger Poet Classic, Oxy faced off against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers. Both teams were victorious on day one, and now had their sights set on each other as the venue changed to Rush Gymnasium. Lewis and Clark took control of the tempo of the game midway through the first half, and although Oxy tried to claw back in to it, the strength and length of the Pioneers were too much to overcome.

Oxy Defeats Willamette on Day One of the Tiger Poet Classic
WHITTIER, Calif. (Dec. 3, 2009) Occidental once again co-hosted the annual Tiger Poet Classic with Whittier College. This year the event pitted the two SCIAC programs against a pair of Northwest Conference squads. On day one Oxy tipped off against the Willamette Bearcats, jumping out to a big first half lead before watching the Bearcats battle back. After closing with a flurry in the first half, Willamette could not maintain the momentum, and the Tigers turned a close game at the half into another double digit victory.

Tigers Score a Season High 95 Points in Win over Griffins
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2009) Oxy stepped on the floor a day after Thanksgiving and put on another offensive display against the visiting Fontbonne Griffins. Scoring a season high 95 points on 51.5% shooting from the field, and as a team they handed out an astounding 27 assists on their 35 baskets. Fontbonne was coming off a year where they finished 2nd in the SLIAC before falling in the conference tournament championship game, so the Tigers knew they would have to play their best and every member of the team was up to the challenge.

Tigers Defense Steps Up in Big Home Win
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 24, 2009) The high scoring Tigers, who scored 79 tonight and are averaging 82 a game this season, showed off another side to their game when a stingy first half defense propelled them to a big home win over the rival Panthers. Chapman has been to the NCAA tournament for the past nine seasons, last year knocking off the Tigers in overtime to advance to the second round. So even though this was only the third game of the season for both squads, the energy level was very high throughout the contest.

Tigers Fall in a Shootout
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Nov. 20, 2009) After scoring 94 points in its season opening victory, the Tigers surrender 89 points in a road loss to the Westmont Warriors. The #18 ranked NAIA Warriors led by 10 in a low scoring first half, before both teams combined for 100 second half points, with Westmont taking the half (52-48) and the game 89-75.

Oxy Alumna Roshon Records Another First for Womens Basketball
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2009) Two years after becoming the all time leading scorer in Occidental College womens basketball history, Stacie Roshon recently signed a professional contract with the Velbert Baskets located in Velbert, Germany. The move makes her the first womens basketball player from Occidental to ever play professional basketball.
