LA JOLLA — Heidi VanDerveer, who led the Occidental College women’s basketball team to four SCIAC championships in four years, has accepted an offer to become the head coach at UC San Diego.

LOS ANGELES — Makenzie Brandon (Seattle) was named First Team All-West Region by d3hoops.com on Tuesday, becoming just the second Oxy women’s basketball player to earn first-team honors in the modern era.

LOS ANGELES —With the Occidental College women’s basketball team in an unfamiliar position trailing by two points with 8 minutes, 43 seconds to play in the second half, Brittni Walker (Castaic) converted a three-point play that ignited an 18-2 run to finish off Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, along with Oxy’s record-breaking SCIAC regular season championship run, 50-36 at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday.

TIGERS CLINCH FIFTH CONSECUTIVE SCIAC TITLE
LOS ANGELES — Makenzie Brandon (Seattle) scored 23 points, Katelyn Rowe (Carlsbad) grabbed 13 rebounds and the Occidental College women’s basketball team clinched at least a share of its fifth consecutive regular season SCIAC championship by steadily pulling away from Cal Lutheran for a 62-47 win at Rush Gymnasium on Thursday.

THOUSAND OAKS — The offense never got going, the big plays went the other way down the stretch and the Occidental College women’s basketball team lost to Cal Lutheran University 54-50 at Gilbert Arena on Saturday, snapping its six-game winning streak and bumping the Tigers out of first place in the SCIAC standings — Redlands (12-5, 6-0 SCIAC) beat Cal Tech 76-74 to take over the top spot.

LOS ANGELES — Despite a second-half comeback, the Occidental College women’s basketball team snapped its six-game winning streak, losing to Johns Hopkins University 62-51 at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday in the team’s last non-conference game before the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season begins.
