Ismail Named SCIAC Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES — Occidental's Tala Ismail was named the SCIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Tigers to a 71-69 double overtime win over Redlands in their first SCIAC game of the season on Saturday.

Ismail, a 6-foot sophomore forward from Pasadena, scored 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had five steals against the Bulldogs.

"Tala is a versatile player who brings a ton on both ends of the floor," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Defensively, she gets deflections and anticipates well, and offensively she is becoming a multi-faceted scorer. She has the capacity to be a game changer, like she was for us against Redlands."

Oxy is 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

The Tigers are back in action at Cal Lutheran on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
