LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 3, 2010) She was the go-to player all season for the Tigers and after the coaches met for their end-of-season meeting, Stephanie Babij was named the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference womens basketball Player of the Year. Her role on the SCIAC co-champion Occidental College Tigers was evident to the other seven voting parties and her numbers spoke for themselves. Joining the junior center with All-SCIAC honors were freshman Makenzie Brandon and senior Dior Williams.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) The 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference womens basketball tournament championship game was a night filled with big plays. The third meeting between the University of Redlands and the Tigers was marked with great defense that resulted in both teams shooting under 35% from the field, putting each possession under intense scrutiny, as every score put each team one step closer to an NCAA tournament berth. It took overtime to finally decide a winner, and the Bulldogs got the better of this match up, escaping Rush Gymnasium with a 55-54 victory.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2010) Both teams finished their respective 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference seasons tied. The womens team placed first, with the mens team knotted in a three-way tie for second. A share of the womens SCIAC title, put the Tigers as the No. 1 seed and they will host No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, while the men, who dropped to the No. 4 seed will be at CMS on Friday to play the No. 1 seeded Stags.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2010) A term that is used way to often in sports, but one that perfectly describes the clash that took place tonight in Rush Gymnasium between the Athenas and Tigers, because it truly was a shame that either of these determined squads had to lose tonight. Playing like they were the top seed for most of the second half, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps opened up a 10 point lead with ten minutes left in the game, and held a one point lead with three minutes remaining. But Oxy responded with a 7-2 run, fueled by the defense of Dior Williams, to will themselves past the upset minded squad from Claremont, in the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post season tournament, by the final score of 72-69.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) In what could be a preview of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship, the Bulldogs and Tigers locked up in a very physical game, that saw momentum change jerseys several times. Unlike last time when the Tigers outlasted the Bulldogs in a nail biter, Redlands tonight was more aggressive and snapped the 12 game winning streak of Oxy with a decisive 66-54 win.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2010) - With a share of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title on the line tonight, and facing the University of La Verne, a squad that had faced the Tigers in the finals of the SCIAC conference tournament the past two seasons, and with the squad donning pink laces in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, no more motivation was needed for Oxy to bring their best tonight. And it showed, as the Tigers put their foot on the gas and never looked back tonight, rolling to a 76-41 victory over the Leopards.
