THOUSAND OAKS — Ella Inman shot a career low, Kristin Oberiano sits two strokes back of the leaders and the Occidental women's golf team posted a season-low 347 on Day 1 of the CLU Regals Invitational at Sunset Hills Country Club on Monday.
The Tigers sit in 8th out of 12 teams, just four strokes back of McMurry University for fifth. Cal Lutheran leads the two-day competition with a 310.
Inman shot a 15-over 87, putting her in a tie for 23rd overall.
"Ella has made big strides in her game since coming to Oxy," Oxy head coach Andrew Larkin said. "She continues to work incredibly hard and, even after rehabbing from a torn ACL last year, has shown that her best golf is still ahead of her. It was a great round and we're very proud of her, but we know there's even better rounds around the corner."
Oberiano, Oxy's star junior, posted a 78 and sits in fifth. Cal Lutheran's Danika Cochiolo and Hannah Purdy, and Mary-Hardin Baylor's Elizabeth Davis were the low medalists on the first day with 76.
Kara Alam recorded Oxy's third-best total at 91.
