WAIKALOA, Hawaii — Kristin Oberiano sits four strokes back of the leader in third place and the Occidental women's golf team set a team record for an 18-hole team score on Day 1, shooting 45-over 325 in the first of two rounds at the Dennis Rose Invitational at the Waikaloa Beach Course on Monday.
Oxy shot 330 in the second round, closing the 36-hole day at 655. The Tigers, who are competing with scholarship schools Cal St. Monterey Bay, Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii Pacific, St. Martin's, Concordia (OR), finish their Hawaii competition with 18 holes on Tuesday before heading back to campus.
Oberiano, a perennial All-SCIAC selection, had rounds of 77 and 75 (152). Samantha Rocha shot 163, Katy Uchiyama posted a 169 and Hana Mizuno had a 171 in the five to score four event. SCIAC women's competition is six players to score four, making Oxy's record in Round 1 all the more impressive.
Oxy's previous one-round team record was 326 set in 2014.
