Women’s lacrosse releases inaugural schedule

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2009) – In the inaugural women’s lacrosse season at Occidental College, the Tigers will host 10 of their 14-game schedule in the spring of 2010 at home. While Oxy has sponsored a club team for numerous years, the 2009-10 academic year marks the first season of Intercollegiate competition and the addition of the team at Oxy has pushed women’s lacrosse to being a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sport.

Wasting no time diving right into both intercollegiate lacrosse and conference play, the Tigers will take the field for the first time in program history on Wed. Feb. 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to the University of Redlands. The second game of the season, against Whittier College, is another SCIAC match-up, and will kick off a seven-game home stand when the Tigers and Poets face-off at 1:00 p.m.

Among the teams that Oxy will play on D.W. Patterson Field are Whittier College, another SCIAC school on Sat. Feb. 27, followed by six consecutive non-conference match-ups. Occidental will then host Ohio Wesleyan University, Carthage College, Sewanee University, Frostburg State University, University of Puget Sound and Pacific University during the month of March.

The season will wrap-up with four SCIAC games on the road against Pomona-Pitzer, UR, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and WC before concluding with back-to-back home SCIAC games against CMS and PP on April 21 and 24, respectively.

All home games will be played on the FieldTurf at Patterson Field.

The top-four SCIAC teams will advance to the Inaugural women’s lacrosse Post Season Tournament that will take place between April 28 and May 2.
