CLAREMONT — The Occidental College women's lacrosse team erased what was at one point a five-goal deficit to pick up an important win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 15-13 on Wednesday.

The Tigers (11-2, 5-2 SCIAC) trailed 8-3 early in the first half before cutting the lead to 8-6 at the break.

The Tigers went on a 9-2 run spanning the last 10 minutes of the first half and first 20 minutes of the second, to open up a three-goal advantage, 12-9. CMS cut the lead to one twice in the final 5 minutes, but the Tigers answered each with goals on the other end.

CMS' Madi Shove made it 13-12 with just more than 5 minutes left. Oxy's Lauren Wemple (Needham, Mass.) responded though 57 seconds after with a free position goal, giving Oxy a two-goal cushion with 3:24 on the clock.

Less than 1 minute later, CMS' Claire Peterson brought the lead back to one with a free position goal of her own, but Rebecca Belding (Burlingame) scored the last goal of the game with 2:01 to play and Oxy held on for its third road victory of the season.

Sarah Kessler (Portland, Ore.) led Oxy with five goals and Tori Larson (Denver) added four.

Ali Abramovitz had four goals and two assists for the Athenas.

Beebe Finch-Sanders (Berkeley) won four draws and picked up three ground balls for the Tigers.

The victory means Oxy (11-2, 5-2 SCIAC) will head into the SCIAC tournament as the host and No. 2 seed. They'll face CMS again on April 28 regardless of the outcome of their season finale against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at Jack Kemp Stadium.
