GRAND LAKE, Colo. — Tori Larson (Denver), the Occidental College women's lacrosse team's leading goal scorer in 2012, was named IWLCA First Team All-West Region on Friday.
The sophomore's selection on the regional squad makes her eligible for IWLCA All-American honors that are expected to be announced on May 24. The national All-Americans will be recognized at a banquet on June 16 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Penn.
Larson is the first Oxy women's lacrosse player ever to receive the honor. She helped guide the Tigers to the SCIAC Championship game, the NCAA Division III playoffs and a 13-4 overall record in just the program's third season. The attacker scored 57 goals, snatched up 32 ground balls, had 39 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers. She also ranked first in the SCIAC with two game-winning goals.
In her two-year career, Larson has Oxy's all-time best points per game (3.23) and goals per game (3.0) average.
Oxy won more games in 2012 than it did in each of its first two seasons combined. At one point, the Tigers won 10 games in a row.
Three other SCIAC players made the First Team, with five more making the second team.
