OXY WOMEN'S LAX EARNS IWLCA ACADEMIC TEAM HONORSBy Michael Wells Sports Information Director
LOS ANGELES — The third-year Occidental College women's lacrosse program added another honor to its groundbreaking 2012 season.
The Tigers were one of 61 NCAA Division III teams to earn Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Squad honors for recording at least a 3.0 grade point average as a team.
On the field, the Tigers had a 10-game winning streak, were one win away from a SCIAC championship, made their first appearance in the NCAA playoffs and won 13 games total — more than their previous two seasons combined. Tori Larson (Denver) was named IWLCA First Team All-West Region and six Oxy players made the All-SCIAC teams.
"I am very proud of our team's work ethic on and off the field," Occidental head coach Michele Uhlfelder said. "We are excited to be recognized along with an impressive list of schools who represent the IWLCA Academic Squad this year. 2012 proved to be a great year of focus, preparation and determination for us, both in the classroom and in the uniform."
Redlands and Whittier were the only other SCIAC schools recognized on the list.
