Women’s Soccer Gets First Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2007) – Occidental women’s soccer recorded their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over La Sierra on Sunday.

The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Adrienne Spivak’s unassisted goal in the 17th minute of play. La Sierra tied things up, but Oxy battled back. A penalty kick by  Chelsey Brack found the back of the net, counting for the ultimate winning goal.

In the 81st minute Carli Wachi added an insurance goal on an assist from Jesi Sasaki.

Senior goalkeeper Melissa Warner played all 90 minutes, blocking two shots for the Tigers.

Occidental out-shot La Sierra 14 to five and had seven corner kicks while the Golden Eagles had four.

Grace Reinhalter, a freshman from Silver Spring, MD, got her first taste of collegiate soccer today as she took one shot in the contest. Also appearing in her first game of the season was senior defensive player Jennifer Lopez.

Oxy open SCIAC play on Wednesday when they host the Leopards from the University of La Verne. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Soccer Field on the campus of Occidental College.
