Tigers Upset Bulldogs on Home Turf

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2007)– As the rain poured down the adrenalin pumped up as the Occidental College Tigers held the defending Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Bulldogs from the University of Redlands scoreless for a 1-0 victory on D.W. Patterson Field today.
With just 1:47 ticked off the clock freshman Season Falker-Rodriguez connected with sophomore midfielder Elise Deveraux who snuck the ball past Redlands’ goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings for the only score of the game.
Oxy controlled the tempo of the game from the get-go and retained possession of the ball for the majority of the first half. Their domination continued in the second with tough defense from sophomore Marci Kang and junior Starlie Chinen throughout the entirety of the contest.
Occidental put together an 11-shot performance while they held Redlands to just five total shots.
Senior goalie Melissa Warner blocked six shots in the game as Rawlings blocked just one.
While both teams entered the day with 2-0 SCIAC records, the Tigers improved to 4-1 overall and remain undefeated at 3-0 in SCIAC play and Redlands falls to 3-1-2, 2-1 in SCIAC play.
Occidental will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-3; 4-0 SCIAC) on Wednesday Sept. 26 at 4:00 p.m. on the Lower Soccer Field on the campus of Occidental College.
