COSTA MESA, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2008) – The season did not begin as the Occidental College women’s soccer team had hoped it would as the Tigers were shut-out in their opener, losing to NAIA Vanguard University 4-0.

While the Lions got 14 shots off, the Tigers managed only 5 and came up empty. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Sawchenko took two shots, while fellow classmates Ali Kaditz and Jesi Sasaki each took one as well with junior Moe Kishida rounding out the attempts.

In front of the goal Robin Feldman made three saves to open her sophomore campaign.

The Lions were led by a hat-trick from Danielle Dintino while Karri Currier notched the final score for Vanguard.

A trio of Tiger freshmen saw the first playing time of her respective collegiate careers including Maddy Rasch (MF), Alex McHenry (MF) and Claire Willing (MF). Vanguard is now 3-0 on the season, while not having allowed a goal thus far in 2008. Occidental falls to 0-1 and will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13 as they travel to Fullerton to play Hope International University. Kick off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
