Tigers Pick Up Non-Conference Win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2008) – Coming off a disappointing loss to SCIAC foe La Verne, the Tigers were able to re-group and defeat Macalester College 2-1 on the Lower Soccer Field today.
After the Scots took an early 1-0 lead when Jordan Eckstein scored on a feed from Emily Bardwell in the 12th minute, Occidental’s defense shut MC down.
Thirty-one minutes after the game began Ali Caditz knotted the game at 1-1 when she got an assist from Jesi Sasaki.
Just after returning to the field from halftime, Oxy struck again when Moe Kishida netted the game winner in the 56th minute of play to give the Tigers an edge.
In front of the goal, freshman Charla Holdren played strong in front of the cage making six saves on 10 MC attempts.
The Macalester goal keeper, Annie Virnig, recorded five saves as Oxy fired off eight total shots.
Both teams had numerous corner kick opportunities as MC had seven chances with the Tigers earning six.
Occidental improves to 5-6 overall. SCIAC
play will continue on Wednesday afternoon when the Tigers host the
Sagehens from Pomona-Pitzer at the Lower Soccer Field beginning at
4:00 p.m.
