Disappointing Day for Tigers Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2008) – Unable to score for the second consecutive game, the Occidental College Tigers were shut-out by the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas 1-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play crushing the Tigers’ hopes of advancing to the SCIAC Post Season Tournament.

The lone goal of the game came in the 62nd minute when Giselle Galanto scored on an assist from Brittany Watson.

CMS took 22 shots while Oxy fired off just 13, but earned just one more corner kick opportunity (five) than the Tigers (four). Corinne Winkler and Nicole Findlay each took three shots while Marci Kang added a pair of attempts.

Both goalies played 90 minutes with Robin Feldman blocking 10 shots and CMS keeper Camila Friedman-Gerlicz making seven saves.

Occidental falls to 6-8, 5-6 in SCIAC play. The Tigers will conclude their season on Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host the Cal Lutheran University Regals at 11:00 a.m. on Patterson Field.
