Womens soccer starts off SCIAC play with a win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2009) – The Occidental College women’s soccer team hit the road for the first time in 2009 and returned home from the University of La Verne with their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season, a 1-0 victory.
A hard fought battle, the Tigers defeated the Leopards on a goal that came in the 29th minute. Senior Elise Devereux, whose goal arose from the best shot of her collegiate career, nailed a bullet from 25 yards out. Junior Jesi Sasaki set up the goal with a pass to Devereux . The ball sped into the top corner, hit the top corner sanction, and rebounded back into play. Many of those in attendance took several moments to realize a goal had been scored.
The Tiger defense and goalkeeper, Robin Feldman, did an excellent job today keeping the Leopards to zero goals for Occidental’s second shutout in as many games.
For their next game, the Tigers will meet the
University of Redlands (2-3, 1-0 SCIAC) on the Lower Soccer Field
of Occidental College on Saturday September 19th at
11:00 am.
