Womens soccer shuts out Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2009) – This morning on the road the Occidental College women’s soccer team handed the Cal Lutheran University Regals their first loss of the month when they posted a 2-0 win, scoring both goals in just over two minutes during the second half.
Entering the morning the Tigers were out to redeemed themselves from a 2-1 defeat to the Regals earlier this season and did just that.
After a scoreless first half sophomore Liz
Martin scored the first and ultimate winning goal of the
day for the Tigers at the 60:37 mark. Her shot sailed over the save
attempt by CLU goalie Kristin Borzi.
Just a few moments later at the 62:49 mark, Alex
McHenry added the second and final Oxy goal of the game.
The Tigers improved to 6-0 this season when scoring two of more
goals in a game.
The shutout came in large part to the Tigers’ defense coupled with the efforts put forth by the Oxy goalie, Robin Feldman. The junior keeper made five saves while CLU’s Borzi made four. Occidental took 15 shots while CLU had 12.
Today marked just the second time that CLU (9-3-2, 4-3-1 SCIAC) has been shutout this year in 14 matches.
Occidental improves to 7-5 overall with a 5-4 league record.
With the win Oxy takes over the third spot in the SCIAC standings,
swapping places with CLU, who now holds onto the fourth spot.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21 the Tigers will travel to Pomona-Pitzer
where they will face off with the Sagehens who are currently 3-9-1,
2-5-1 SCIAC. Teams will kick off at 4:00 p.m.
